Leadership Legacy at Christ University

The Institute's leadership model is grounded in the inspiring vision of St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara. It adopts the frameworks of Authentic and Servant Leadership, emphasizing authenticity and inner values to foster empowered leadership in harmony with the University's vision of Excellence and Service. This approach forms the essence of the institute's leadership philosophy and framework.

Christ University has placed leadership development at the forefront of its strategic plans, starting from the moment it attained autonomous status in 2004. Notable initiatives include strategy sessions for deans and directors, faculty outbound training, and active participation in programs such as the United Board for Christian Higher Education Fellows.

Drawing from a rich legacy of investing in leadership development, Christ University has long recognized the paramount importance of cultivating effective leaders. This commitment is vividly reflected through the array of academic units dedicated to the cause. The School of Business and Management, Psychology, Professional Studies, and the Centre for Social Action have played pivotal roles in fostering a culture of leadership initiatives within the institution.

The School of Business and Management houses seasoned faculty with rich experience in executive management and leadership models, employing case study methodologies to enhance critical thinking and decision-making skills essential for effective leadership.

In the realm of psychology, the Department of Psychology brings a vital perspective to leadership development, with faculty specializing in various psychology domains, enriching our understanding of human behavior and effective leadership—a key facet of the institute's approach.

Additionally, our experts from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, in collaboration with the Centre for Digital Innovation, excel at integrating technology into leadership practices. Their focus on virtual simulation exercises and game development offers an immersive learning experience aligned with modern leadership needs.

Drawing from decades of experience, the School of Education and Centre for Education Beyond Curriculum (CEDBEC) have been pivotal in organizing training programs for higher education professionals. Their collaboration potential, including offering IB Educator certificates in leadership and leveraging competency-based curriculum development, further enriches the institute's leadership education offerings.

This enduring emphasis on leadership within various academic domains serves as a testament to Christ University's historical dedication to nurturing future leaders. As an extension of this legacy, the institute has embraced a clear vision: to establish a world-class leadership institute that seamlessly integrates training, cutting-edge research, and holistic capacity building. In doing so, it strives to not only meet but exceed the standards of higher education leadership, setting a paradigm for leadership excellence that resonates across the academic landscape.

The United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia

The United Board is dedicated to holistic education, nurturing individuals intellectually, spiritually, and morally.

We draw inspiration from our Christian roots and values, as well as our collaboration with Asian academic institutions. Together, we prepare individuals for fulfilling personal and professional lives while engaging meaningfully within their communities.

The United Board operates as a non-governmental, tax-exempt, nonprofit organization, registered in the United States and recognized as a public charity in Hong Kong.

The United Board strives to address the diverse challenges and opportunities faced by colleagues in higher education across Asia, particularly in areas of significant need. We share a common interest in fostering institutions that provide multidisciplinary education and promote compassion, fairness, reconciliation, social responsibility, and mutual respect across various religious and cultural backgrounds.

Our approach is inclusive and ecumenical.

While our primary engagement is with Christian institutions, we also extend our support to other colleges and universities that share our commitment to comprehensive education. Our work is grounded in solidarity with educators in these institutions. Their insights help us identify needs, and their innovative solutions guide our collaborative efforts to address them.

Through our programs and grants, we assist institutions in enhancing educational quality. This includes sponsoring professional development for faculty, administrators, and trustees, as well as facilitating connections and networks among Asian higher education institutions. Our present focus encompasses five program areas: leadership development in higher education, faculty development to improve teaching, learning, and research, fostering campus-community partnerships, exploring culture and religion in Asia, and implementing special initiatives.

To fund our initiatives, we actively seek contributions from individuals, foundations, and alumni of Asian institutions, complementing the income from our endowment.
